Q: Are there really more barrels of bourbon than people in Kentucky?

A: It is estimated that there are roughly 5 million barrels of bourbon in Kentucky at any time.  By contrast, the 2015 census estimated 4.4 million people in the state.

Q: Are these authentic bourbon barrels?

A: Yes, all of the products we offer are from reclaimed barrels that were used in the production of bourbon whiskey in KY.

Q: Can you still smell the bourbon?

A: Particularly in the full size barrels, the bourbon scent is very apparent.

Q: How long does it take to ship barrels?

A: Typically, barrel heads will ship in 1-2 business days.  Full-size barrels typically ship in 3-4 business days.

Q: How are they shipped?

A: Barrel heads are wrapped, boxed, and shipped via UPS or Fedex Ground.  Full-size barrels are specially boxed and shipped via freight carrier.  Both item are shipped to your door.  Delivery drivers will not place the items in your home.

Q: What do the barrels weigh?

A: Barrels weigh approximately 150 lbs.

Q: Will distillery markings be visible?

A: Our agreements with local distilleries require that all marking be removed.

Q: What kinds of imperfections can I expect:

A: All of our products have natural aged wood characteristics.  Each piece is unique.  Imperfections in wood and gaps between staves are normal.

Q: Why are the barrels sanded, reinforced, and sealed?

A: Most of the barrel we use have aged bourbon for 4-10 years before losing their liquid goodness and being sent to us.  After many Kentucky seasons, they are rough, dirty, and the hoops are rusted.  If left as is, the wood staves would dry out, causing the rings to lose tension and the barrel would fall apart.  We clean them up, reinforce them, and seal them to ensure longevity.

Q: Can custom designs be requested?

A: Contact us to discuss options.  Custom orders are reviewed by quantity and type of design requested.

Q: Can I get a blank barrel?

A: Yes.

Q: Can the barrels be left outdoors?

A: The barrels are sealed, but are not completely protected from the elements.  We do not recommend leaving our products outdoors completely exposed.

Q: Can I pickup my barrel at your location?

A: Yes.

Q: The barrels are empty, right?  They are not filled with bourbon?

A: You’re kidding, right?  They are empty.  If they were full, we would not be sober enough to type this sentence.

Q: If I re-fill a barrel with water and let it age for a while, will it make whiskey?

A: Nope.  We know people who have tried that.  It only made them some really, really dirty water.  Don’t attempt.
