Bourbon Barrel Coffee Table

bourbon barrel coffee tableBourbon barrels are designed to hold a very specific Kentucky liquid, liquor-ey goodness.  But what is you could use a barrel to store other things?  Like your television remote.  Or maybe that soft blanket you like to snuggle up on the couch with?  Introducing our latest creation, the bourbon barrel coffee table!  Made from a real barrel that was used in the making of bourbon whiskey in Kentucky, and white oak, this unique piece of furniture will impress all of your friends, neighbors, and bourbon aficionados.

Production of this new table will continue, but for the immediate time frame, all of our bourbon barrel coffee tables will be available by special order only.  We are also happy to customize them with any of our Kentucky-themed designs or a logo of your own!

Barrel Dog Bed

barrel dog bedShow your four-legged companion just how much you appreciate them with a custom bourbon barrel dog bed!  After all, who do you think keeps watch over your finest Kentucky Bourbons when you’re away?  Man’s best friend does!

While working on some of our latest bourbon barrel projects, we noticed that our Jack Russell, Bugsy, seemed to enjoy the smell of bourbon and white oak char just as much as we did.  Seeing as how she has kept us company through many glasses of bourbon over the last 15 years, we figured she deserved her very own custom barrel dog bed.  We used a half barrel, and cut a wide opening in the front so she would easily be able to get in and out.   The existing metal barrel hoops were reinforced and screwed into place to ensure durability.  We also lightly sanded the interior and exterior before sealing it, exposing the beauty of the wood and char, and making sure that the charred interior would not rub off.

To customize Bugsy’s new bed further, we very lightly painted her name on the inside and scripted “WOOF-ford Reserve” on the exterior.  To keep it simple, we decided to place her existing dog bed and pillow inside.  As it turns out, many standard size dog beds will fill the interior perfectly.  So far, Bugsy seems to be enjoying it quite a bit!

The materials for this bed have been reclaimed from 55 gallon charred-oak barrels that were used in the making of Bourbon Whiskey in Kentucky.  After aging for many, many seasons in the heart of the Bluegrass, these used barrel staves and barrel heads are lightly sanded, sealed, and reinforced to insure longevity. Each piece is hand-painted by Kentucky artisans.  BarrelHeadsKY.com is a subsidiary of Lexington Furniture Company. Each barrel’s head can be customized and hand-painted by Kentucky artisans with any of our available designs or custom designs.

Each barrel with glass shelf exhibits natural aged wood characteristics.  Each barrel is unique.  Imperfections in wood and gaps between staves are normal.  The imperfections in the barrels are what make them beautiful.  After all, they aged delicious bourbon whiskey for many, many Kentucky seasons.

Bourbon Barrel Blog

bourbon barrel blogWhew!  We’ve been busy…  Welcome to our new Bourbon Barrel Blog!  BarrelHeadsKY is a new startup in Lexington, Kentucky, formed as a division of Lexington Furniture Company.  We are rehabbing old bourbon barrels that were used in the production of KY Bourbon Whiskey and transforming them into furniture, decorative accessories, and collectibles for bourbon fans.

As it turns out, there are more barrels of bourbon in Kentucky than there are people.  Sounds crazy, right?  At any point there are roughly 5 million barrels of goodness aging in the Bluegrass State, with approximately 4.5 million residents calling it home.  Once a barrel has completed it’s whiskey aging tour of duty, it can no longer be used to make Kentucky Bourbon.  While most barrels are shipped away to be used in wine, scotch, or beer making, some are sold to entities like ours to be transformed into something new… something a bit awesome!

We are a Kentucky Proud company.  We use all Kentucky materials, and employ hard-working Kentucky artisans to do the work.  Stay tuned to our website for new product introductions, stories, and videos of us making some really fun stuff.  Thanks for stopping by!
